A Numerical Study on Projectile Penetration into Underwater Torpedo Warhead

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Underwater torpedo interception could be conducted by shell perforation or even warhead impact detonation with high speed projectiles. This work deals the projectile water entry and sequent penetration into underwater whereby both aluminium explosive are numerically studied. The model aluminum validated against test data for penetration. Targets located under 20 cm depth where shells air-back while has explosives inside shell. Four kinds of different nose shape tungsten projectiles used simulation, revealing that ogival have superior performance as well than conical Numerical predictions shed some light on optimization design velocity torpedoes.

Penetration of a projectile by impact into a granular medium

When a solid sphere drops in a granular medium, an impact crater is created. The penetration of the projectile in the granular bed as a function of the impact energy is evaluated theoretically using a simple model including a friction law between the projectile and the grains, a viscous dissipation in the bed and a force from the collisions between the projectile and the granular material. This...

Analytical and Numerical Consideration of Projectile Density Effect on Its Penetration Ability in Alumina Armor

In this paper, penetration of high velocity impact of 4340 steel and tungsten carbide projectiles with specific shapes in to ceramic armor that includes 10 mm alumina (95%) is considered analytically and simulated with Ls-Dyna software. Bernoulli equation used to consider the penetration velocity in ceramics, shows that the penetration is better and easier by increasing projectile density. The ...

A Numerical Study into a Local Protuberance Interaction with a Fin on a Supersonic Projectile

A preliminary investigation into the interaction of a local protuberance with a fin on a supersonic projectile has been completed. Computational fluid dynamics have been utilised throughout. A model has been computed for Mach numbers between 1.5 and 4 and between 0° and 8° angle of attack. Validation of the results has been undertaken quantitatively through comparing normal force and pitching m...

Multi-objective Optimization of a Projectile Tip for Normal Penetration

The main purpose of the present work is multi-objective shape optimization of a projectile tip for impacting and normal penetrating. Velocity drop, weight and inner volume of projectile have been considered as three conflicting objective functions.  For this purpose, at the first step, finite element modeling was done using ABAQUS/Explicit and projectile penetration was examined in different ge...

mechanics of projectile penetration into non-cohesive soil targets

investigation of projectiles penetration phenomenon has been carried out in non-cohesive soil (sand) targets under dry, saturated and compacted conditions. analytical studies have been performed on the linear and non-linear soil models to obtain penetration depth formulae for ogival nose projectile and the results are verified by experimental studies. in present work, three ogival nose projecti...
